Max and her Racoon Rescues
My daughter, Max, once turned to me and said, "Mom, I'm somewhat of a raccoon-whisperer." She had built and was running a wild animal sanctuary. Three weeks before she died an article appeared on the Animal Planet and The Dodo websites on her amazing ability with an albino raccoon that had just come to her sanctuary.
Two weeks after she died, I had to drive to get a flat tire fixed. I was crying as I drove, uncontrollably crying, and I pleaded out loud, "Max! How am I going to do this?!"
Then the traffic light ahead turned red and as I pulled up to the car that was traveling in front of me, I saw this license plate: RACCOON. I frantically grabbed my phone and took a photo, as I knew that later I would not be able to believe this had happened.
My entire experience at that moment became "Oh!" Even as I tell this story, I feel my daughter's love like her heart is beating inside my own.
