Today I told Doug that I really wanted him to be loud and come through to Isabella Johnson. I knew he always held back to let others go first and I didn’t want that this time.  I knew after Carly came in, that Doug was stepping up when Isabella said she saw her sign for suicide.

We were on the last reading with maybe 10 min. left in the meeting.  There were several others that were also piggybacking.    Doug is athletic.  Fencer, martial arts.  Good looking.  Very strong. Light brown hair.  He was always very helpful as a child and loved nothing more than to make me laugh.

Isabella talked about something being in his name.   There is a Douglas McClew named memorial scholarship at Loyola in New Orleans for music industry studies.  I’ve been invited twice to the annual donor reception to meet the recipient of his scholarship.  (His suite mate really spearheaded the campaign).

Doug was a percussionist and a music industry studies student for two years at Loyola NOLA but decided to finish at the University of Memphis in Accounting with honors.

In high school he was also active in theatre and earned the Brescia award for selfless service in theatre.   He was behind-the-scenes, hanging lights and running sound. He often gave blood and organized St Jude fundraisers such as art auctions and music nights with his fraternity.

Isabella talked about how all these young men who were piggybacking are doing so much to help others.   They are all very compassionate and are serving humanity from the other side.  I saw in the chat other moms talking about the things their sons did to help others.   I couldn’t tell you all the things Douglas did to help others, but I did get tired of him giving money to every homeless guy in Memphis.   We were close, yet I often felt like he was helping others when I needed his help more.

I did talk to him a lot when he would get overwhelmed or frustrated with how ridiculous people can be over petty things.  I know he couldn’t say ‘No,’ and he often had too many irons in the fire.   I could tell more stories about what I deem as selfless service.

I just want to say that Isabella did a stellar job bringing all our kids through in such a short time frame.   Thank you HPH and Isabella.   And thank you to all the young men who served and are still helping humanity to grow and expand.  I’m glad that Isabella could assure all these moms with sensitive and compassionate sons who left their bodies by conscious choice, that they are doing very well and are doing great works on the other side because they love humanity so much.

~With love, Perry McClew
